Tamarlane had its beginnings in 1957 with German Shepherd Dogs. I started showing in breed and obedience competition as a teenager and did this throughout high school and college. 1968 was a pivotal year. That was the year I graduated from Veterinary School, had the number seven obedience trial dog in the nation, and purchased my first Akita. He turned out to be just pet quality but he got me hooked on Akitas.

My first big break  came when I acquired, quite by accident, a young female who became Ch. Freroses Sarah Lei ROM. When bred to CH. Akita Tani's Daimyo ROM she produced in her first litter Ch. Tamarlane's Silver Star ROM who was the top Akita in 1979. This breeding produced 16 champions for me. Sarah is still the number one (tied) ROM (Register of Merit) bitch in the history of the breed. The Sarah Daimyo breedings also produced Ch. Tamarlane's Capella the top winning Akita bitch in 1983, Ch. Tamarlane's Khaiber ROM and Ch. Tamarlane's Kuma Yama Khan ROM the number five Akita in 1983. In all Tamarlane has produced over 80 champions, top winners and ROM Akitas worldwide. We continue to produce top quality Akitas that are wonderful pets and companions as well as top show dogs. In addition I am now an AKC approved judge and have had the privilege of judging our Akita National Specialty Show two times. I was also very much honored by being invited to attend the first Akita World Congress in Tokyo, Japan in December 1996 as well as the Second Akita World Congress in Hamm, Germany in November 1998.

In 1990, while judging in England, I fell in love with a wonderful little dog named "Leo" and we added the Chinese Crested Dog to our hobby
